HEALING MINISTRY

Healing Ministry

Update: December, 2009

Healing ministers met on November 8th to discuss Chapter 1 - “Forgiveness and Freedom” in Charles Stanley’s book The Gift of Forgiveness.  We reviewed the three essential elements of forgiveness, and why the person with an unforgiving spirit truly loses in the long run.

The healing ministry also offered healing altar calls at both services on Sunday, November 15th

The next healing ministry meeting is planned for Sunday, December 13th, 6:30pm in the church library.  We will be discussing the second chapter in The Gift of Forgiveness entitled “The Big Picture.”  In this chapter Stanley talks about basic concepts, such as:

·            What our just God requires when we sin, and the second chances our merciful God provides to reestablish fellowship with God.

·            How our forgiving God provided for “atonement” of sin through the Old Testament’s sacrificial system.

·            What our loving God wants more than retribution for our sin.

·            What we too often allow to get in the way of accepting God’s forgiveness.

We welcome interested members to join us in discussing these basic concepts related to forgiveness.  Members of the congregation may contact Pastor Glenn or Phil Welch, Jr., to arrange for the pastor and/or healing ministers to visit and pray with them and loved ones in hospitals, nursing homes, their homes or over the phone.

"Whenever you enter a town and its people welcome you, eat what is set before you; cure the sick who are there, and say to them, ‘The kingdom of God has come near to you.’”

[Luke 10:8-9, NRSV]

Update: November, 2009

Healing ministers met on October 11th to discuss a chapter in Mark Pearson’s book Christian Healing entitled “Being and Staying Well.”  We reviewed points by Dr. Mary Grace Pearson (Mark’s wife) on how to be well and how to seek the abundant life – physical, emotional and spiritual – that Jesus promised us.

The healing ministry also offered healing altar calls at both services on Laity Sunday, October 19th

The next healing ministry meeting is tentatively planned for Sunday, November 8th, 6:30pm in the church library.  We will be discussing the first chapter in Charles Stanley’s book, The Gift of Forgiveness.  This chapter, entitled “Forgiveness and Freedom,” talks about three essential elements of forgiveness and why the person with an unforgiving spirit really loses in the long run.  We welcome interested members to join us in learning why God wants us to forgive, as God has forgiven us.

Members of the congregation may contact Pastor Glenn Ferguson, Karen Walsh or Phil Welch, Jr., to arrange for the pastor and/or healing ministers to visit and pray with them and loved ones in hospitals, nursing homes, their homes, or over the telephone.

And when the men of that place recognized Jesus, they sent word to all the surrounding country. People brought all their sick to him and begged him to let the sick just touch the edge of his cloak, and all who touched him were healed.

[Matt. 14:35-36, NIV]

Update: September, 2009

A healing altar call is planned for the third Sunday, September 20th.  Please come to the altar rail when invited by Pastor Glenn and receive prayers of healing for yourself or a loved one.  Anointing will be offered and you will be asked for what healing you wish prayers.  You may also come and sit with a healing minister in the pew at the front of the sanctuary, or you can signal a healing minister to come to where you are sitting.

The healing ministry team will be meeting on Sunday, September 13th, at 6:30pm in the church library to plan for the coming months.  We will pray for discernment of God’s will for this ministry, including further study of specific types of healing, inviting guest speakers to share with us and additional ways of ministering God’s healing love.  If you are interested in learning more about the healing ministry, please join us.

Members of the congregation may contact Pastor Glenn (732-671-0707), Karen Walsh (732-294-8562) or Phil Welch, Jr. (732-747-5032) at any time to arrange for the pastor and/or healing ministers to visit them and friends in hospitals, nursing homes, their homes or over the phone.

[Ananias] laid his hands on Saul and said, ‘Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus, who appeared to you on your way here, has sent me so that you may regain your sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit.’

[Acts 9:17]

Phil Welsh, Jr.
